  3. IRIX 6.5.18 Installation Tools and Overlays, November 2002 README

  6. The IRIX 6.5.18 Overlay CDs contain the miniroot and other components
  7. necessary to boot the system into the basic installation environment
  8. for operating system installs and upgrades. They also contain
  9. documentation called "Customer Welcome", which includes Installing IRIX 6.5
  10. pages that provide important information you should read before you
  11. install this release of IRIX.

  13.  To view the Installing IRIX 6.5 pages:
  14.  1. Insert the Installation Tools and Overlays CD 1-of-4 November 2002
  15.     into the CD-ROM drive.
  16.  2. Open a Web browser and enter the following address:
  17.     file:///CDROM/WhatsNew/yourSystem.html
  18.  
  19.     NOTE: Literally type yourSystem.html; do not
  20.           type your actual system name.
  21.  
  22.  3. Click the "Installing IRIX 6.5" link.

  34. Carefully follow the instructions in the CD booklet that came packaged
  35. with the 6.5.18 CDs.  It is especially important to follow the
  36. instructions when upgrading from a release prior to IRIX 6.5.  Among
  37. other things, these instructions tell you how to insert all
  38. applicable IRIX 6.5 CDROMs  (or open all network distribution
  39. directories) as well as the 6.5.18 CDROMs, before issuing any "keep"
  40. or "install" commands.  If this is not done, your installation will
  41. not be successful (you will get unresolvable conflicts). Refer to the
  42. CD installation booklet for a list of applicable and necessary CDs.

  44. As a reminder, you may want to check "Caveat and Release Note Updates"
  45. link at   http://support.sgi.com/6.5/caveat_updates.html   for any
  46. late-breaking information.
